HomePageWhether you are a parent or young person seeking information on one of the 12 Groups, 6 Explorer Scout Units or Scout Fellowship within the District, a current member or one of our many Leaders?, I hope you find what you need. You will need to register to see all the content, subscribe to newsletters, become an editor etc. 100 years ago the Founder of Scouting Lord Baden Powell?had a vision from which a Movement has grown, so that Scouting is found today in every corner of the land. In 2007 we are celebrating this 100th anniversary. Scouting happens principally in Scout Groups, Explorer Scout Units and Scout Networks?, wherever boys and girls meet to enjoy the Scout programme. The function of all the other units in the Movement is to enhance the quality of provision of that programme at local level. What is scouting? The purpose? of Scouting is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. We do this by placing the young person in a section of Scouting relevant to his or her age. In each section we use a structured programme of games and learning activities and adventurers to enable each young person to grow. Scouting’s great strength lies in its grassroots. It is locally that Scouts are best able to identify and work directly with those young people most in need.
Scouting offers bridges to a world of social involvement and inclusion through education and activity. Our method? for giving young people the opportunity to learn by doing is called the Programme?. The Programme is a continuous progression of training, activities and awards that covers everything that young people do in Scouting from the age of 6 to 25. We are currently active in 211 countries and territories with a global membership of over 28 million, with two thirds of the international membership in developing countries. Within our District there are 12 Groups all offering a fantastic range of activities and events for young people from ages 6-14. From the age of 14 to 18 the young people are members of Explorer Scout Units which are run at a district level though they may have a partnership agreement with a Group. We currently have over 900 members in Cheltenham District. Pat Hopes District Commissioner SectionsBeavers? Cubs? Scouts? Explorers Scout Network?
